Hundreds of people came out last weekend to enjoy the Amityville Rotary Club's annual Apple Festival held on the grounds of the First United Methodist Church in Amityville. The event featured an array of apple delights including a variety of fresh-picked New York state apples, apple pies and turnovers, candy apples and more. There were food and craft vendors and entertainment.

The Club also hosted an Apple Pie Contest. Matthew Dieck won the Junior Division with his inventive "Another Type of Candy Apple." Laura Policar won in the amateur division for her apple crumb pie and Amy Nowacoski won in the apple dish category with her apple pie bars. Peter Kourounis received the blue ribbon in the professional division with an apple rum raisin pie. For the best entry in the competition, Mary James received the Gold Apple Award for her apple pecan crumb pie.
