George Broschart Jr., local accountant and Veteran

George Broschart Jr., a 46-year resident of Massapequa died at his Burton Lane home from emphysema June 20, 2005. He was 87-years old, and would have been 88 on July 7th.
Born in Brooklyn to Louis and George Broschart Sr., he graduated from St. John’s University and worked professionally for more than 50 years as an accountant. Most recently he was self-employed completing the 2004 Income tax season.
Mr. Broschart served in World War II with the Army Air Corps on the European front in England, France and Germany. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Amityville and was active for many years in the St. Martin of Tours Parish in Amityville, most recently in their employment program.
Family was important to Mr. Broschart said his wife, Margaret. He especially enjoyed an annual Montauk weekend with 100 or so of his family and friends. "Once you went to Montauk with him, you were his family," said Margaret.
In his spare time he liked to bowl and follow his favorite baseball team, the Mets.
Mr. Broschart is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret of Massapequa, his children: George and his wife Jan of Islip, Eileen Muir and her husband Gary of Amityville, Michael of Ronkonkoma, Marianne Donahue of Yaphank, Marge Ryan and her husband Jim of West Babylon and Louise Barbato and her husband Joseph of Massapequa. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; his siblings: Marie Glass of West Babylon, Louise Puttre Plainview and Edwin of Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. His brother Gerard predeceased him.
Mr. Broschart reposed at the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville on June 23, 2005 with a service conducted by the Knights of Columbus. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Reverend Peter Garry at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church on June 24, 2005. Internment with full military honors in the Grace Churchyard Cemetery, Massapequa, followed.
