Humanity is the cure for all social ills

2004-08-19 / Opinion

Dear Editor:

On July 8, in a Letter to the Editor, a Ms. Teresa Foster of Amityville, expressed her horror over the racism displayed during a basketball game. We should all be grateful that ther e are local residents who descry such behavior. Long ago, while living in Manhattan, I had daily opportunity to observe other humans on the subways while commuting to work. Because of what I saw, I made up words for a button which read, "Racism, Sexism and Greed are Our Diseases, and We are the Only cure." The professor for whom I worked gave me authority to get 500 buttons printed. All but my last one were given away to students, faculty and anyone else who approved of the message as they read the one I wore daily. for young women on a subway one day each gladly accepted one to wear. One of them, as she got off at her stop said, "This is the best subway ride I’ve ever had!" Would that every human were equally in favor of such values.
