•On Thursday, August 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can learn about sharks from representatives from Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead. The program is geared toward children in kindergarten to sixth grade and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

•The Library is offering a trip to the Greenport Maritime Festival, Sunday, September 19. The bus will depart the library 9:30 a.m. and then depart from Greenport 3:30 p.m. The cost is $13 per person for residents and $20 per person for non-residents. This trip is appropriate for the whole family. There will be boat building and maritime demonstrations, children’s activities, pirates, historic ships, wooden boat regatta, crafts and exhibits and local wine tasting. Children can ride the famous carousel and cheer on the whaleboat racers. The price includes deluxe motor coach transportation, box lunch and gratuities.

•A defensive driving course will be given Saturdays, August 21 and September 18, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The fee is $28 payable by check or money order made to the order of Empire Safety Council. This course will save 10 percent on auto insurance and qualify for license point reduction by attending the class.

•On Monday, August 23, 7 to 8:45 p.m. John Impellizeri will offer a seminar on acupuncture. Acupuncture can be used to treat many conditions psychological as well as physical.

•A five-session class on T’ai Chi will be offered Fridays, August 27 and September 3, 10, 17 and 24, 10 to 11 a.m. The fee is $15. Laoshi Laurince D. McElroy from Water Tiger School of T’ai Ch’uan will offer the program.
