Local church members sail Great South Bay
It was "B.Y.O.B" - Bring Your Own Boat - or ride in someone else’s boat for 50 adults at a social event for the Adult Fellowship Group of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Amityville.
The party was held at the waterfront home of Rowena and George Matzat on South Bay Avenue, Saturday, July 19. The group came by water and land. Boaters tied up at the Matzats and their nearby accommodating neighbors, and then almost everyone boarded a boat for some hors d’oeuvres and refreshments as they sailed the Great South Bay.
The boats came back for a barbecue, headed out again to the bay for a second sail, and came back, this time for hot tubbing and dancing under the stars. Everyone enjoyed the perfect weather and what makes the waterfront of Amityville so great.
Three larger boats hosted the group for their sails - CourtLynd, owned by Mike and Terrylynn Bayon of Massapequa Park; Tuckintow owned by Jimmy and Linda Kay of Amityville and Thanks Pepa owned by Vic and Sue Mazzella of Lindenhurst. Mike Benson is the group’s own popular DJ.
At the party Pastor David Anglin blessed the CourtLynd, newly acquired by the Bayons. The entire group participated in the christening of the 33-foot yacht.
