POLICE BLOTTER Amityville: Police were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident at Merrick Road and Bayview Avenue Oct. 2. The accident occurred approximately 3:20 p.m. Upon their arrival police said Edward Shevlin, 35, of Clinton Ave., East Patchogue was found sitting behind the wheel nude of a 1987 Ford. Police said he was intoxicated and had struck another vehicle operated by Chester Sokolowski of Bay Shore. Shevlin was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. DISTURBANCES Amityville: Highway Superintendent Bruce Hopper called police 8:30 a.m., October 2 to report that an employee in his department was tape recording conversations at work. Police told Hopper that there is no law against the tape recorder but suggested that Hopper contact the Village Board to determine if an administrative rule prohibiting such actions could be put into place. Copiague: An anonymous caller alerted police September 24 to a group of youths hanging out and causing a ruckus at the Copiague Middle School on Great Neck Road. Police responded to the 4:55 p.m. call and spoke to the teenagers. The youths agreed to disperse without incident. North Amityville: A Miller Avenue woman called police at 10:20 a.m., September 24 saying that there was an odor of drugs coming from her basement. Police responded, but upon arrival could find no evidence of drug use or the odor of drugs anywhere in the house. BURGLARIES North Amityville: A man wearing a green shirt and blue jeans was seen at 10:40 a.m. on September 19 jumping a fence behind an Offaly Street home with what appeared to be the intention of entering the house. The man fled when police were summoned. •Sometime during a 90 minute period preceding 6 p.m. on September 23 someone broke into a Boot-Hhill Court home and made off with a number of undisclosed items. •An over -the-weekend break-in at a Liberty Street store resulted in the theft of a number of items. The break-in took place sometime between 2:30 p.m., September 21 and 9 a.m., September 23. Amityville: On September 23 at 9 a.m., the owners of Route 110 office discovered that someone had broken in during the overnight hours. It is not known at this time what, if anything, was taken. GRAND LARCENY Copiague: Someone stole a lawnmower from a shed at a Vespucci Avenue home. The mower was discovered missing at 6:50 a.m., September 21. •Someone stole a 2000 Honda Civic that had been parked in front of a Kensington Court home. The theft took place during the overnight hours of September 18 through 19. CRIMINAL MISCHIEF North Amityville: Someone smashed the rear windshield of a car parked outside a Reith Street home. The incident took place at about 1:30 p.m., September 21. Copiague: Someone spray painted lines on two cars parked on Dixon Avenue. The act of vandalism took place between 9 p.m., September 15 and 8 a.m., September 16. •Five days later, someone spray painted another car at the same address on Dixon Avenue. Police are investigating to determine the connection between the two incidents. ARRESTS DWI: The following persons have been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated or impaired: Slawomir Nagorka, 875 Dante Ave., Copiague Peter Gray, 41, of 821 East Bay Dr., West Islip; Petit Larceny: Sabrina Feaster, 37, of 16 Pine Air Dr. Bayshore; Toniann Zeigler, 665 West Jericho Turnpike; Mary Terzo, 34, of 10 Quail Run, Massapequa; Resisting arrest: Michael Scheff, 15 Sunset Ave., Amityville; Criminal Possession of a Weapon: Ronald C. Hodges, 342 43rd Street, Copiague; Menacing With a Weapon: Jeffrey Sanders, 26 Silver Pine Drive, North Amityville; Robbery: Jonathan P. Carrion, 672 County Line Road, North Amityville (two counts); Shannon M Mahabal, 62 The Blvd., Amityville (two counts). Burglary: William Neal, 3336 Great Neck Road, Amityville (five counts). The charges against those arrested are allegations and the cases are still pending in the courts. Individuals charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner.
