Amateur Radio Club holds field day exercise

Photos by Cliff De Bear

Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club (GSBARC) held its annual field day exercise. Ham radio operators over the world participated in this emergency preparedness weekend, June 22 to 23 at Town of Babylon Park, Babylon Town Hall, Lindenhurst.

In the photo Steve Schwenke (K2JY) longs in a "contact" on the laptop computer as Bero Pavlic (KA2DZR) makes the voice contact with a remote station in this tent set up for Satellite FM Packet, a form of radio contact using computer.

John Smale (K21Z) is shown working 40 Meters. He is wearing headphones to block out ambient noise as he uses Morse Code (called CW) to make his contact with other CW operators somewhere in the world. This is all part of a 24-hour emergency program operating independent of supplied electricity, using only generators and DC batteries to communicate.
