Herbert Buerger, 87, 52-year resident of Amityville
Herbert Buerger, a 52-year resident of Amityville, died September 12, 2002 at the age of 87. Born in Hempstead on September 9, 1915, Mr. Buerger was employed as a quality control engineer for Fairchild Hiller, Farmingdale. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Amityville Club, Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club and a member and past commodore of Narrasketuck. The Most Improved Sailor Award at Narrasketuck was named after Herbert M. Buerger.
Mr. Buerger is survived by his wife of eight years, Jane Sproule Ross Buerger of Amityville; daughters, Barbara B. and son-in-law Robert L. Weaver of Summerville, South Carolina and Elizabeth B. and son-in-law, Thomas G. Small of Amityville; granddaughters Pamela Cox and Amy Leonard of Summerville, South Carolina and one great grandson, Jonathan Fillers, Jr.
A funeral service was held at The First United Methodist Church, Amityville, Tuesday, September 17, 2002. The Reverend A. Erik Rasmussen, Pastor, of the First United Methodist Church said the service. Burial was in Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead. Arrangements were under the direction of the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville.
