Jessie M. "Mikki", Shannon 31-year resident of Amityville, died June 3, 2002 at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset at the age of 68.

Born in Burlington, North Carolina, she later moved to New York with her parents and younger brothers. At the age of 16, Mrs. Shannon was accepted to New York University and graduated with a degree in business. In 1952 she married Kenneth D. Shannon Sr. and had seven children. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren, said her family. She also felt deep in her heart that if she could help someone within her reach, then her living would surely not be in vain, they said.

In addition to her husband, Kenneth D. survivors include her children, Kenneth D. Jr. of New Mexico, Derrick G. of Kansas, Kevin T. of South Carolina, Michele R. of New Mexico, Darian K of Bay Shore, Brigide D. Shannon-Brown of Westbury and Angelique L. of Amityville. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Lathan Jr. of North Carolina, 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Warren E. Lathan.

A prayer service was said Sunday, June 9, 2002. Clifton Batts said the funeral service at the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville, Monday, June 10, 2002. Interment followed in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
