Amityville grandmother Theodora Toomey glowed with pride on May 5 when her grandson, John Toomey, won the bronze medals for the long jump and for softball throwing at the Suffolk County Special Olympics 2002. The event was held at Smithtown High School. Each athlete was assigned two high school volunteers to ensure the safety of the participants. All athletes were presented with medals for attendance, and they also won prizes by participating in special activities in the "Olympic Village."
