Amity resident to attend National Youth forum on medicine

2002-06-19 / People/Social

Jocelyn Homola, of Amityville, will be attending the National Youth Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MED at Villanova University from June 23 to July 2. NYFL/MED is a career development program for high school students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and an interest in medicine. Homola will join approximately 350 other high school students from around the country.

Throughout the 10-day forum, NYFL/MED will introduce Homola to a variety of concepts in public health, medical ethics, research and general practice, including site visits to medical facilities and clinics. Students will engage in a problem-based learning simulation, an educational method where they are presented with a fictional patient’s case history and must diagnose and develop a treatment plan for the patient.

In addition to site visits to cutting-edge medical school and clinical facilities, Homola will hear from and have the opportunity to interact with leaders within the medical field. Students have up-close personal contact with physicians, surgeons, researchers, scientists and medical educators as they go behind the scenes to view these professionals at work.

NYLF is a nonprofit educational organization that brings various professions to life, empowering outstanding high school students with the confidence to make well-informed career choices. Homola is being sponsored in part by the Amityville Teachers’ Association, the Amityville Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association and the Amityville Junior League.
