A front story on the Amityville School District’s Park Avenue project, which appeared in last week’s edition, contained an error in the time line for the district’s action on several major issues last spring.

The school board’s previous majority, led by Board President Jeannette Santos, and not the current MAC Pack majority which came into office July 1, 2001, hired construction attorney Maryann Sadowski. Sadowski, who did not get a vote of support from then sitting MAC Pack members, recommended the firing of the district’s contract manager, Christa, and the hiring of the district’s new manger, Park East.

MAC Pack had, however, been pressuring the board for almost a year prior to those moves to fire Christa Construction, but the previous majority declined to take action before last spring. Santos said the delay, which held up the project and led to major damage at the site, was unavoidable since the board "had to follow protocol and legal requirements."
