Scouts get lesson in history on USS Massachusetts
Cub Scouts from Pack 2 in Amityville spent the night of September 22 living aboard the Battleship USS Massachusetts in Fall River, Massachusetts. Led by Randy Johnson, the pack members learned something about a "battlewagon" in World War II. The pack also explored the submarine USS Lionfish and the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., the Russian missile corvette Hiddensee, and the only two PT boats on display anywhere in the world. Included among the other displays are a Japanese Shinyo kamikaze boat, "Huey" helicopter, Landing Craft, Mechanized (LCM) and T-28 Trojan trainer plane.
The trip has enabled pack members to better understand and appreciate the contributions made by armed service personnel memorialized at Battleship Cove.
