Politics makes good conversation for family and friends

Families should never talk politics or religion, or so the saying goes. But for Babylon Town Board candidates Edward McCabe and Lindsay Henry it’s hard not to strike a political conversation when they get together, especially at this time of the year. They are brother-in-laws—McCabe is married to Henry’s sister—and they’re both running for Town Council.

November’s election calls for an at-large vote to fill two Babylon Town Board positions that will be vacated by retiring Councilwoman Francine Brown and Councilman Steve Bellone. Bellone is running for Town Supervisor, the position currently held by Richard Schaeffer.

McCabe, the Republican Party’s candidate, and Henry, the Independent Party’s candidate who is also running on the Republican line, say they share the same ideals about government and town politics. "We stand together," said Henry, who describes his brother-in-law as a man of high moral character, integrity, and a true statesman. "Our greatest strength is that we are united. However, we’re independent and not bound by what the other says."

"We’re a team," agreed McCabe, who similarly describes his brother-in-law as a very honest, hard-working person. "We both believe that either there will be a change in Town government this year or there will not be. We were both destined to run for office at one point. It’s funny that it turned out to be at the same time."
