Lifelong Amityville resident Hilda I. Hicks

Hilda I. Hicks, a lifelong resident of Amityville except for a brief when she resided in Bahama, died September 26, 2000. She was 85 years old.

Born in Amityville October 16, 1914, she attended the local public schools and, as time went on, became active in her community. Mrs. Hicks served as a Girl Scout leader and, at the time of her death, was vice president of the Ace Senior Citizens group. She was also active in the Sunshine Club and received a life membership in the Ladies Auxiliary of Hunters- Squire-Jackson Post #1218, American Legion with a membership spanning more than 50 years.

She was also a dedicated member of the United Christian Church in Amityville for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her children Ronald W. of Stony Creek Virginia; Sonia J. Thurman also of Stony Creek; Verna M. Taylor of Henderson, North Carolina and Anna M. Daniels of Hempstead. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Her husband Ralph V. Hicks, predeceased her in February, 1976. Three children also predeceased her.

The Ladies Auxiliary held services at the Powell Funeral Home, Broadway, Amityville Friday evening September 29. The Rev. Rudolph Skinner, pastor of United Christian Church officiated at funeral services at Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Amityville, Saturday morning, September 30. Interment followed in the Amityville Cemetery,
