Helen Harriet (Hamilton) Mimms, 75, former resident of Long Island

Helen Harriet (Hamilton) Mimms, of Ayer, Massachusetts, died September 21, 2000 after a long illness. She was born November 5, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Hazard) Hamilton Sr. and was was the wife of the late DuVal Mimms who predeceased her in 1970.

Mrs. Mimms spent her early life in Groton and was a graduate of Groton High School, class of 1945. She married her late husband DuVal at age 25 and then relocated to New York. Mrs. Mimms spent 40 years on Long Island and had been employed by Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital as a mental hygiene therapist’s aid working for a total of 27 years.

Mrs. Mimms had a mortuary science certificate from SUNY Farmingdale where she attended college in her fifties. She also spent a short time in Virginia before returning to Ayer where she enjoyed spending time with her family crocheting and knitting.

She is survived by her five children, Howard D. and daughter-in-law Rose of Charlotte, North Carolina; Edward R. of Amityville; Ivan H. of Lynchburg, Virginia; David T. of Ayer; Nancy (Mimms) Richardson and son-in-law George also of Ayer; DuVal A. and daughter-in-law Tracy Mimms of North Babylon and son-in-law Samuel Plowden of Farmingville. Her daughter Harriet (Mimms) Plowden predeceased her. Also surviving Mrs. Mimms are her brother Charles E. Hamilton Sr. of Ayer; her sister Edith (Hamilton) Jones of Ayer; her brother Gordon W. Hamilton and her sister Rachel E. (Hamilton) Thomas; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephew and cousins. Her brother Robert A. predeceased.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ayer. Donations in Mrs. Mimm’s memory made be made Hospice of Nashoba Nursing Service, 280 Ayer Road, Ayer.
