Proposed modification of
an existing Solid Waste
Management Facility (Part
360) permit authorizing
the operation of a solid
waste management facility
to include the installation
of a soil washing plant. The
soil washing plant will accept contaminated soil and
separate the material into
clean stone, clean sand and
potentially contaminated
fines. The clean material
will be reused as fill and
the fines will be disposed
of at an authorized facility
off Long Island. The plant
is designed to recycle water
throughout the operation,
and wastewater will only
need to be disposed of in
anticipation of significant
rainfall events and at the end
of the operational season
prior to a hard freeze. Wastewater generated during the
operation will be treated
and either directed to the
Suffolk County Department

of Public Works (SCDPW)
sewer system, discharged
to an on-site drainage sump
for groundwater recharge,
or trucked off-site to an approved facility. The project is
located at 1600 New Highway, Farmingdale, Town of
Babylon, Suffolk County,
