McDonald’s® New York Tri-State Area restaurants launched a new localized outreach initiative known as the McDonald’s Nutrition Network to provide funding to local organizations that bring grassroots nutrition programs to the communities they serve.

Suffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter reminds residents of the upcoming deadline for payment of property taxes. Taxes are payable to the local Receiver of Taxes in your Town up to and including May 31. If you miss the May 31 payment to your Town Tax Receiver, the payment then must be made directly to the Suffolk County Treasurer.

FILPS offers lighthouse tour May 12

The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society (FILPS) offers a behind the scenes tour with a present-day lighthouse keeper on Sat., May 12 at 9 a.m. This is a bottom to top tour from the auxiliary generator and light keepers workshop in the basement to the beacon in the lantern room of the lighthouse tower. Learn how lighthouse keepers maintained the light from the 1860s to 2012.

Town of Babylon offers free organic gardening classes May 14 and 21

The Town of Babylon, in conjunction with your Copiague Chamber of Commerce is again offering free organic gardening classes for anyone interested in being able to grow their own vegetables. The expanded classes will take place on Mondays, May 14 and 21, 7 to 9 p.m. Classes will be held at The Fellowship Hall, Christ Covenant Church, 67 Scudder Ave., just off Great Neck Road, Copiague.
