Fire at Frontier Park leaves one mobile home demolished; one minor injury

by Carolyn James

A home at the Frontier Mobile Home Park in North Amityville was severely damaged by a fire that broke out at approximately 12:40 p.m., Sat. Jan. 7.

First arriving at the scene was North Amityville Fire Company (NAFCo) Chief Timothy Lay who was followed by Ass’t Chief Michael Benloss.

“When I arrived the police were there and there was smoke coming from the trailer and flames were shooting out of a side window,” said Lay. “I then sent a retone to notify the other volunteers at 12:54 to alert them that we had a working fire.”

Police and firefighters were told at the scene that no one was inside.

“At that point we set up two lines, one for the interior and the other (to protect) the exposure.”

Lay said that the mobile homes are close to one another, which makes the possibility of having the fire spread to other homes a concern.

“But things moved pretty quickly and we had the fire under control within 20 minutes,” said Lay.

Assisting NAFCo were Amityville Village and South Farmingdale fire departments who send in engine crews and a rapid intervention team. One Amityville firefighter sustained a minor injury to his hand.

“The volunteers did a great job, bringing the fire under control despite some difficult circumstances,” said Lay.
