TOB names September ALS Awareness Month
Town of Babylon Supervisor Steven Bellone recently joined with his colleagues on the Town Board to proclaim September "ALS Awareness Month" in the Town of Babylon and honored a local family for their efforts in the fight against ALS. The family of Barbara McGarrity, a North Babylon resident who lost her life to ALS last year, have resolved to help contribute to the quest for a cure for the debilitating disease and will be taking part in the "Walk to D’Feet ALS" in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on September 25th. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is an incurable disease that continually deteriorates the muscles in the body, leaving the mind unaffected and completely aware of the body’s deterioration.
