STEP offers parenting skills-workshop

After a child has been sexually victimized, families often experience crisis. STEP is a seven-session parenting skills course for parents whose child has been sexually victimized. The STEP education course will help parents meet the challenges of raising their children within a supportive group setting. STEP will help parents and guardians: Learn effective ways to relate to their children; Identify the purpose behind their children’s behavior; Learn many of their concerns are usual and normal for all parents; Change dysfunctional destructive relationships with their children. STEP teaches parents skills to guide their children to achieve positive, productive goals and behavior. STEP promotes and builds cooperation and positive communication. STEP uses positive discipline methods to teach and promote self-esteem and responsibility.

To register for a STEP workshop call the Megan’s Law and CSAP Resource and Support center and ask for Joan Burke at 631-680-2672. Workshops are regularly scheduled at the center or can be arranged for presentation at your site.
