Town of Babylon offers housing help through Partnership program

The Town of Babylon and the Long Island Housing Partnership jointly announced changes in the administration of Babylon’s community development program recently.

Beginning in October, the Town will administer the overall community development program with the Housing Partnership’s role focused on Babylon housing-oriented programs: down payment assistance, home improvement and affordable housing construction.

"Babylon is taking community development in house for a variety of reasons," said Rich Schaffer, supervisor. "It makes economic sense, and it will centralize the community development and Section 8 rental assistance programs in town hall for Babylon citizens’ easy access.

Babylon and the Housing Partnership have had a very productive relationship for the last three and one half years. The Housing Partnership has been tremendously helpful in providing for a smooth transition to the Town’s internal administration of community development. Patricia Bourne, who ran the community development program for the Housing Partnership, will do the same for Babylon; this will ensure continuity.

"Going forward, the Housing Partnership will work in Babylon on our core mission - improving housing conditions for Long Islanders. All of us at the Housing Partnership anticipate a continuation of the productive relationship with Babylon, its Town Board and staff." said Jim Morgo, Housing Partnership president.
