Matthew P. Heffron, a longtime resident of Amityville, died suddenly of a stroke Dec. 25, 2011 at his home. He was 56 years old.

Mr. Heffron was raised in Copiague and graduated from Copiague High School. He worked as a tractor-trailer driver for Scherer Manufacturing in Clearwater, Florida.

Catherine G. Dobby, longtime Amityville resident; member of St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville

Though she never drove a car and never worked outside of the home after the birth of her children, Catherine G. Dobby had a strong and constant presence in her family and in her church.

“She was a dedicated mother who was driven to see that her children excelled at whatever they wanted to do,” said her son Donald J. Dobby, Chief of the Amityville Police Department.
