      Patricia Jamilkowski was one of the few, the proud—a Marine. The longtime Amityville resident served during World War II and was a member of the Sunrise Detachment Marine Corps League. She died July 21, 2010 with her family at her side. She was 87 years old.

      Former local resident and mother Dorothy E. Strick died Aug. 8, 2010 in West Palm Beach, Florida where she lived for the last 25 years. She was 86. “My mom was my best friend,” said her daughter Barbara of Amityville. “She ran a tight ship, but whenever she was asked how she raised so many kids, she said she was just playing house. She loved children.”
